Support Your Local Record Shop

Ok, so with the sad news of Massive Records and Avid Records both shutting in the last year, from a DJs point of view, we need to keep at least one non-corporate record shop open in Oxford, so here’s my plea to get you lot to pop in to Vinyl Frontier from time to time.

For those that don’t know its just off Cowley road next to Videosyncratic. Its run by a friendly fella who’s stocked up on loads of classic records ranging from Rock to Reggae to Cheese to Old-skool Hardcore. The sample/set introduction potential is endless. The Hip-Hop section is pretty impressive for such a small shop and recently I bought some real gems including; Fab 5 - blah, The Brotherhood - one shot, High & Mighty featuring Mos Def & Mad Skillz - bboy document 99, Ripshop - versus Rakim - guess who’s back, The Beatnuts - ya better believe it.

There are a number of Drum and Bass classics that pop up in there too and I’ve seen some real nice bits from the V camp, Hospital (early releases), loads of No-U-Turn stuff, Moving Shadow, Good Looking, CIA, etc. Whenever I’ve been in there I always end up pulling out a shed load of tunes and hard to find albums to try out on the listening post. So you know what to do. Next time you’re on Cowley road, give it a look, and keep our beloved vinyl scene from becoming completely internet based.
