The Ridiculous Reeplay

Jon Dutch told me about a crazy-good producer from Wantage who had recently been reviewed in Hip-Hop Connection. The Ridiculous Reeplay has been making beats for a while now. Take some time to read about this lad, hit up the links, check his tunes, and I’m sure you’ll like what you hear.

Name:

Reeplay

Age:

18

Location:

Southampton (Uni) / Oxford (Home)

You’ve been making waves for a little while. How long have you been making beats for?

Well, those who’ve known me the longest would say like 3 years… but most of that time was spent producing ejay level beats, haha, so producing for real, in terms of having a real go, working with emcees and such, I’d say a year.

When did you realise that your beats were good enough to put out there?

From birth, I used to beatbox in my mums……nah, I’ve basically got all the love and support from my brothers and my friends, it’s only recently I’ve really felt like I’m doing something.

Aside from your ridiculously good Sort Your Life Out remix on the Blunted CD, what other projects/audio can people check?

I’m on a few Mixtapes here and there: My man Nelace at the moment (from NC, USA) has created the ‘Buffet Mixtape’ which I have a couple tracks on www.myspace.com/nelace. You can also check www.myspace.com/reeplay for my latest beats and by latest I usually mean I’ve made them that day, people are always saying latest and they stuff is old and stale, like a pair of recycled boxers.

Have you got any forthcoming eps/albums coming out?

The project is in full effect: ‘Come With Me’ 16 part story, sorry, journey, that I and many emcees are about to embark on. It’s probably going to be completed by late March 2007 – can’t say who’s on it yet but if you know about me you will probably still be pleasantly surprised.

Who has been your greatest influence as far as your music is concerned?

This is always a tough one for me, basically because they have been so many producers that have taught me in some way… if you asked a month ago it would have been 9th… but the real inspiration came from the legendary DJ Premier – I’ve loved him since I 1st heard him BOOM!

Who would your ideal collabo involve?

Ah man, that’s a biggie, never really considered that. I’d love to get on something with Edgar Allen Floe, because I have a feeling we will see much more of him in the future, there’s too many artists flying about in my head at the moment though - I’d say the ultimate collab would be MF Doom.

Now for the important questions - What’s your favourite Pub to go for a meal and a pint?

Cork And Bottle Southampton - heres a tip, don’t eat there (the toilet is next to the kitchen - piss vapour in my chips? No thanks!)

What TV program/film would you say is essential viewing for everyone?

Family Guy - Everyone knows it’s way forward.

Finally Mr.Reeplay, here’s your chance to do your shout outs -

Its gotta be all my peeps from Myspace + from home and uni - DJ King get behind those wheels and amaze me - The whole of the Blunted Presents world - The GTAs, The Pinikals, The Jons, The Starkillers. Also large shout-out to the OxRoc bboys, my bro, Chrissy Whiskers, Rush in Japan and that dude SamC, gotta get back with you cats sometime. Also to you Gabs. Nicely - remember ‘Come With Me’ … no one will be ready. Peace
