Indecision & The Dugout Mix for Download

I first heard about Indecision when talking to Azonica a year or so ago. Apparently this really sound bloke had started working at Massive Records.

How did you get the job there?

I was working at HMV in Oxford as the vinyl buyer beforehand and I was always chatting to different people about different music and one of them was Matt B from Slide. He mentioned to me that one of the guys was thinking of leaving, so I marched down there with my CV & told Jo & Si I was the best person for it, and they gave me the job!

Cool, how did you find working there? Were there more good customers than annoying ones?

There were a few plebs, yeah! But the main thing I loved about working there was actually selling people records. I felt like the guy from human traffic, ‘So fresh out the jungle, straight off the vines’ kind of thing, you know?

It was dope man, trying to keep everybody happy, checkin’ new stuff, listening to tunes all day long was cool, even doing the little comments was alright too! I’d already decided that was what I wanted to do, Massive was just a bit more specialist. I’m just thinking about the next way to make people part with their money and come away with good tunes next!

Your focus at Massive was selling the D&B releases, is this your music genre of choice?

Hell no! I mean I love D&B, but its defiantly not my 1st choice… I love all kinds of stuff. Reggae, Ska, Blues, Hip-Hop, Soul, Funk, Electro, Broken Beat, House, Breaks, Non–gash Rock, African… Whatever man! I’d say the main thing I listen to at home is probably Funk though. Everyone knows I can’t go past 12am at a D&B night! I did quite well at the last HQ though, 1am before I headed I think!

So who or what influenced your musical taste and choice?

I don’t really know, my parents and Bro & Sis aren’t really into the stuff I’m into. Although I will count my brother for introducing me to Hip-Hop when I was really young, but I didn’t really get into it until a lot later in life. I think one thing that defiantly opened some musical doors for me was hearing ‘Product Placement’ & the ‘Brainfreeze’ things. I don’t care what people say about those mixes, they defiantly introduced me to the Soul I like now, and spurred me to discover other stuff.

The Dugout Front

I guess working at Massive gave you a little jump start but you were soon DJing out in Oxford. Can you remember your first gig?

I don’t think I can to be honest! It might have been at Skylarkin’ at the Brickworks… If anybody knows, feel free to remind me!In the last few months you’ve formed quite a bond with our dear friend Mr.Aidan Skylarkin’. Tell us a little more about that.

I introduced myself to him in Polar Bear after hearing about Skylarkin’ through his old boss (my then boss) and gave him a mix CD, he liked it & asked me if I wanted to play in the Brickworks. I guess we just got on, he’s a good guy! And he’s got some riddims! And he let me play in the Disco Shed @ the Big Chill, which I will be eternally grateful for!

So from playing at a number of different nights (HQ, Blunted, Skylarkin’, FutureFunkFormation) you have decided to take the plunge and start your own night, The Dugout, what prompted you to step into the promoting game?

I dunno! – It just came into my head and it spiralled out of control. I guess I just wanted to do something exciting with a Funk night, you know, not just the music, but having those extra little things to keep you entertained, as well as floor stomping Soul!

The Dugout Front

Now, I know I’m excited about it but for those that don’t know, can you tell us a bit more about The Dugout?

Basically, I’m putting on a party & you’re all invited! It’s gonna have Good time Soul, Superfly Funk & seriously tough Jazz… Plus more!

The opening night is going to be a banger! Not to mention top notch DJ’s Aidan (of Skylarkin fame) Green-T, Cuban John, Fabulous Hand & Jon ‘FazzJunk’ Kemp, we’ve also got an in-club record shop provided by the lovely people of Avid Records, which a bunch of stuff will be coming from Bournemouth for the night.

Also we’re gonna have a slightly different set-up so we can incorporate the visual aspect, with themed visuals as well as local graffiti artists showcases, as well as this seriously dope guy called Ed who does silhouette paintings of Grant Green, JB etc. Has to be seen!

Also, hopefully the Oxroc boys will be there… And if that wasn’t enough, If you are one of the 1st 50 people through the doors, you get yourselves a ****ing cool goodie bag!

The Dugout Front

Sounds good. You have somewhat of a reputation as the man who always has a smile on his face, and I hear that you intend to make us all put smiles on our faces with an exclusive Mix CD, come on, own up, what have we got to look forward to?

Its not a mix, it’s just a wee something me and the Proj man put together, so you know what to expect on the night! Believe me there are some seriously meaty chunks of Funk on there! It will be one of the goodies in ‘the goodie bag’, so if you’re one of those ‘fashionably late’ types, you won’t miss out!

What’s coming up in the future then?

Well, obviously the Dugout will be taking over! Just want to work on that really… I’ve already got Fingathing booked for November 3rd, maybe some treats for December time, and take it into the new year. Beyond that, keep playing cool tunes to people, keep making shit beats on reason, I’ve got some work experience in the new year I’m looking forward to, and trying to build on my CV for a big corporate record company sales chief job or something! See what happens I suppose!

Lastly Euan, are there any words of wisdom or indeed shout outs you may have?

Listen to funk, it makes you feel good! Props to Project Cee, Aidan, Blunted crew, Jared, Oli, Green-T, Steve Fab Hand and anybody else who has helped in anyway with getting the night going. Thanks, I owe you one. WORD!

To get all you Funksters warmed up for The Dugout’s first night, Blunted Presents the ideal warm up at The Dukebox (link) the week before. Butterfingerz will be accompanied by Monkai but also the mighty Indecision and of course Cuban John will playing their funky flavours.
