Deep Soul Music - Latest News May ‘07

Easy all. This is a blog for all those wanting to know more about DSM and what we’ve got coming up in the future…

Conceived in the summer of 2006 by friends and stalwarts of the Cheltenham and Gloucester drum’n'bass scenes Subverse and Stumasta, Deep Soul Music is seen as something of a continuation for these dnb visionaries after a stint spent managing Sensor Records for the mighty Donovan ‘Bad Boy’ Smith.

Setting the precedent for DSM’s flagship release (Scheduled for release May 2007) are two tracks from two of hottest new acts on the scene. London based newcomers Do The Math waste little time in establishing themselves at the more soulful flex of the DSM arsenal, while newcomer LSB bursts out of the blocks after several hugely succesful years in club promotion, laying down some funky minimal business to represent the more experimental take on the DSM mould.

With an abundance of quality in reserve watch out for a glut of future deep soul from artists including the likes of Spectrasoul, Lynx, Coalition, Subsurface and Zyon Base.

DSM001 - PROMO’S 28TH MAY

A - Do the Math - Aint no Home

After an impressive 2006, the Do the Math clique continues to go from strength to strength; after a barrage of releases under his belt on labels such as Revolution, Emcee and Horizons for founding member Sabre, it is this time the turn of crew members Dan Intrinsic and Kase with this beautifully crafted slice of soulful drum’n'bass. Sampling the spine tingling combination of Esther Philips vocals with the lyrics of Gil Scott Heron while a silky smooth bassline workout couples with some mellow chords, ‘Ain’t No Home’ raises the bar for this already hugely talented London based collective, in a track that all in all epitomises the DSM sound.

AA - LSB - 11th Groove

After establishing himself as a well-respected contender in the up and coming DJ scene, newcomer LSB lays down some funky minimal business on this first 12 for DSM, in turn illustrating the diversity the label endeavours to promote. Amidst a spate of forward-thinking artists fusing funk and tech for 2007, ‘The Eleventh Groove’’s lush intro paves the way for a stripped down two-step drop, accompanied by an old skool vibe that represents pure unadulterated head nodder at its finest. With additional releases forthcoming on labels including Zinc’s Bingo Beats, this man is definitely one to watch.
