Dap-C - The Richest Misfit

Another free Mixtape to get stuck into before the weekend. Leicester-based Emcee Dap-C’s ‘The Richest Misfit’ had a decent review in this months Hip Hop Connection so warrants checking out. Features a guest spot from Skinnyman & S.Kalibre on the track ‘The Boy Who Cried Wolf’.

Dap C

Dap-C started life as Craig Dalziel back in 1980 and grew up in Battle Hill - Newcastle. His school life would not be easy to say the least and he was thrown out of two schools before he left 1996. His first interests in music were acts such as Michael Jackson, Guns N Roses & Luther Vandross. In 1991 at the age of 11 he was introduced to rap music through tapes of NWA, Ice T, Snoop Dogg & Dr.Dre, but it wasn’t until 1996 when he was 16 that he wrote his first proper rime.

His first stage appearance was around the same time when he started freestyling at local all night raves. Then after doing music for fun for many years he went to prison for a fraud conviction in 2002, it was during his time away he started to write proper songs, making the best use of his time inside. Upon his release he turned to old high school friend and producer Dom-P to help him turn his ideas into a finished album, after 3 days in the studio in North Shields and with a little guidance from house music legend ‘Farley Jackmaster Funk’ Dap had completed his vocals on his debut album ‘Character Building’.

Once Dap got his hands on the completed album, he sent one copy to Nottingham based label ‘Sin Nombre Records’ and was signed within a few days! The following year the label released the album and Dap-C was on the map. One year after the albums release Dap left Sin Nombre and started his own outfit N.G.U. Records, where he released 4 free mixtapes & 6 12″ vinyls.

Now in 2007 Dap has just dropped his first official mixtape release ‘The Richest Misfit’ which featured collaborations with UK rap legend Skinnyman as well as newcomers like Big Cakes. This mixtape is also the first time Dap properly introduced his newly signed artists Geejay & MC Beads (check out there profiles on Dap’s top friends list). N.G.U. Records is currently home to: Dap-C, Geejay, Mc Beads, Dirty Sweet, Mistalopez & more to come! - myspace.com/dapc
