Broke’N'£nglish - Terms & Conditions Mixtape

terms and conditions BrokeN£nglish Terms & Conditions Mixtape

A good old slice of ‘British Hip Hop’ in the form of the “Terms & Conditions” mixtape from Manchester threesome Strategy, DRS and Konny Kon, aka Broke’N'£nglish; extremely talented MCs that spit no-nonsense, technically assure and confident raps. ”Terms & Conditions” was Broke’N'£nglish’s first mixtape, although not mixed and not on a tape, it dropped in 2005 and featured tracks by Strategy and DRS as well as guests, Fallacy, Gudz, Johnny Chimpo and Konny Kon. Pretty stoked to see this up as a free download from the new Broke’N'£nglish blogspot. Still sounds fresh.

terms and conditions back BrokeN£nglish Terms & Conditions Mixtape

If you check the blogspot you’ll see loads of good music and what these guys are upto, also make sure you check the download for Radio Ones Mary Anne Hobbs show, broadcast in October which featured Broke’N'£nglish stepping it up in the Dubstep arena. If you can’t be bothered to check for this, I’m gonna post this up here in the next few days anyway because its got to be heard.

I’ve had the pleasure of checking these guys a few times now and in all the shows they have never disappointed. Hugely entertaining and slick with the freestyles be sure to check them live if they are in your area. Hit up the Broke’N'£nglish Myspace for more info.

Please burn it, pass it on to your friends, play to your mum, listen in your car but do not listen on your mobile on the back of the bus on your phone, because strategy didnt spend days on end, sitting in front the computer mixing it down so you could annoy old people on the number 86 with your tinny nokia phone speaker! - Konny Kon

DJ Skee & Evidence - The Layover Mixtape

evidence the layover mixtape DJ Skee & Evidence The Layover Mixtape

Yet more sleeping with this, think it was out the first week of November… Anyway, “The Layover Mixtape” is the brainchild of DJ Skee and West-Coast resident Evidence of Dilated Peoples, as if you didn’t know that. This tape does a good job of raising the hype for Evidence’s new “Layover EP”, which is out November 25th, and the new album with The Alchemist, “The Step Bros” with is set to drop early next year I think. No real surprises with this tape, which is personally what I was hoping for to be honest, its consistent, its Dilated and does boast a few gems; ‘Recognize (Feat. Chace Infinate & Fashawn)’, Let Yourself Go (Remix) (Feat. Phonte) and ‘All Said & Done (Remix) (Feat. Bishop Lamont)’ to name a few. Guest on the tape include Defari, Bishop Lamont, Mickey Factz, Fashwan, Phonte and loads more.

Props have to go to DUBBCNN for the link. Jump on this, more neck-snapping goodness from one of the original indie Hip Hop legends.

Elastic Island, a YWFT Mixtape

elasticisland Elastic Island, a YWFT Mixtape

You probably haven’t heard of YouWorkForThem or YWFT. If you have then you probably (should) know about this little mixtape right here. To give you some background, YouWorkForThem is an award-winning group of artists and designers that produce some absolutely sick graphics, typefaces, prints and t-shirts. The YouWorkForThem website, founded in 2001 by Michael Cina and Michael Young, showcases this work and also makes stock design available to buy alongside t-shirts, books, magazine, videos… etc! A typeface of which I used recently from designer Thun Puchpen on this years Blunted Boat Party Pass.

This little mixtape was posted on the YouWorkForThem Blog and comes courtesy of Roberto Carlos Lange and Jaytram. And as you’d expect, it has some very special artwork by Stefan Kjartansson. The Portable Anorak - Mr.Thing

You know that if Mr.Thing does a mixtape, it’s going to be good. Props to MikeP who pointed me in the direction of this mix on the Old To The New website. The real heads might remember the series of mixtapes he did back in the day, The Golden Anorak & The Platinum Anorak. These were basically smacked full of Thing’s favourite Breaks and Samples from hiphop tunes.

Heres a few words from the man Mr.Thing on his latest project -

So, I’ve pulled my finger out after being on tour and after finding a few more bits i wanted to use, I’ve very very nearly finished the next one - “The Pocket Anorak” (It’s for your iPod or whatever you see). I’ll be putting it up as a free download for a bit as soon as it’s done, and that’s it! So come get your trainspotter on with Old Man Thing!
